Apron Reconstruction Project
The apron rebuild design is 100% complete, with bidding and FAA funding being coordinated. Some tie-down spaces could be lost, which matters for aircraft parking tenants.
Air Traffic Control Tower Grant
Monroe got into the FAA contract tower program — city builds the tower, FAA staffs it. A site was chosen after a high-tech LIDAR evaluation, the FAA wants bid documents by September, and the city is applying for $12 million in FAA funding. Apron, taxiway and runway strength upgrades are also planned.
Runway Safety and Maintenance Program (EQY-SPAM)
The state will crack-seal the runway and refresh markings from April through June, extending pavement life. Some temporary runway closures will occur during the work, with pilots notified.
Federal and State Grant Applications
The city sought federal grant funds for an airport contract tower and for the Johnson Street/Franklin Street intersection improvement — bringing outside money into local projects.
